VIP or vasoactive intestinal peptide, is a 28-amino-acid endogenous neuropeptide that belongs to the secretin/glucagon peptide superfamily. It is used experimentally as a ligand in studies of VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors and, depending on the assay system, related class-B G-protein-coupled receptor pharmacology.
The peptide’s receptor interactions are commonly evaluated through binding and cyclic-AMP-based signaling assays.
